Invisalign – a simple, easy and comfortable way to straighten teeth

Clear Damon braces

A clear Invisalign aligner

Because Invisalign is virtually invisible almost no one can tell you are wearing braces. They are an excellent cosmetic alternative to traditional metal braces.

Before you begin treatment with Invisalign we can show you, using 3D software, how your teeth and smile will look at the end of the treatment. This allows you to go ahead with the treatment with complete confidence.

Invisalign uses a set of clear aligners that will gradually straighten your teeth. Each aligner is changed every 2 weeks.

The aligners are removable thus allowing you to brush your teeth normally and eat your favourite foods.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses a system of clear, discreet and comfortable aligners that are custom made for you. The aligners will gently and comfortably move your teeth and straighten them to the correct position.

Treatment time is about as half as long as traditional braces and varies from nine months for simple cases to eighteen months for more complex cases.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

Traditional braces use metal wires and brackets to straighten teeth. This makes them very conspicuous and may make clients feel self-conscious when wearing the braces.

Invisalign however, is a virtually invisible means of straightening your teeth. Many clients have commented that no-one has noticed they are wearing the clear aligners. This makes it so much more acceptable to having your teeth straightened, especially for adults.

Furthermore, traditional metal braces can only be removed by a dentist. The clear aligners of Invisalign can be removed at any time by yourself. So you can remove them when eating, brushing your teeth, etc.

Finally, the unique ClinCheck 3D software allows you to see how straight your teeth will be at the end of the treatment, before it has even begun.

The Invisalign treatment sequence

  1. The first step in straightening your teeth with Invisalign is to take an impression of your teeth. This allows us to assess whether your teeth can be straightened with Invisalign.
  2. We then use ClinCheck, a computer imaging technology, to produce a comprehensive treatment plan. This plan maps the series of movements your teeth are predicted to go through until they reach their final straight position.
  3. Using ClinCheck, we will show you what your teeth and smile will look like at the end of the treatment before your treatment with Invisalign even begins.
  4. A series of aligners are then custom made for your teeth. These aligners fit snugly over your teeth and are worn for 2 weeks each. These aligners will move and straighten your teeth gradually until you have the perfect straight smile that you want.
  5. The clear aligners are worn for approximately 22 hours per day.
  6. We will see you every 4 – 6 weeks throughout your treatment to ensure everything is progressing as planned.

Is Invisalign suitable for teenagers?

For some young adults and teenagers, the adult treatment will work just fine for them. In particular, because Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible and removable, they are a great way of straightening teeth for younger adults who would otherwise feel self-conscious in braces.

Younger teenagers may be more suitable for Invisalign teen. This treatment option has been specifically designed for them as their adult teeth may not have fully come through, especially their canines and molars.

The treatment also comes with six free replacement aligners just in case some are misplaced.

Back to list of FAQs

Is treatment with Invisalign comfortable?

The treatment on the whole is very comfortable.

When the aligners are changed there may be a feeling of pressure on the teeth as they are gently moved. Some clients find this sensation mildly uncomfortable but it typically goes away in one or two days.

Can I eat normally with Invisalign?

Because you can remove your aligners you can continue to eat and drink whatever you like. To maintain good dental hygiene, it is important that after meals you brush your teeth before re-inserting your aligners.

Back to list of FAQs

How often must the aligners be worn?

To ensure the treatment progresses well the aligners should be worn all the time except when eating, drinking and brushing your teeth. You can also briefly remove them for special occasions such as weddings or important meetings – but usually this is not necessary as they are so discreet.
