Some things to consider before making your final decision.
Whilst dental veneers are often thought of as false fingernails for the teeth, this can tend to undermine the fact that this is a dental procedure that needs to be done professionally. Unlike false fingernails, dental veneers are not just “stuck” on top of existing teeth. Before they can be attached, a layer of enamel, equivalent to the thickness of the veneer, first needs to be removed. Because this is a protective layer, removal of too much enamel could result in sensitive teeth and ones that may be more prone to decay in the future; so it is a precise technique which must be performed very carefully.
Whilst it may be tempting to go abroad for dental veneers perhaps due to an attractive price; like other procedures, this can be something of a gamble and one that we would not suggest you take. Remember that if the procedure is not done carefully, there is no going back and you will be stuck with the results forever.
With the experience of our cosmetic dentists at Arthur House Dental Care, and the sophisticated equipment that we use in our Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham practice, this problem simply should not arise.
Before we fit veneers, we undertake a detailed consultation with you to discuss your requirements. Although you may have studied the options yourself, our professional advice will help you to make the right choices.
Whilst dental veneers will certainly improve the appearance of your teeth; if your teeth are discoloured, it may be that a teeth whitening procedure will be sufficient and avoid the more invasive nature of having veneers fitted. Likewise; whilst veneers can be used for some minor teeth misalignment, there is little point in having this done if, ultimately, you only need a short period of wearing braces to correct the matter fully.
This said, dental veneers certainly have their place, especially where teeth are either heavily stained or have suffered chips and cracks, and can dramatically improve your smile.
At Arthur House Dental Care, we can also offer veneers in just one visit through the use of our in-house CEREC technology. This means that there is no need for temporary veneers to be fitted whilst yours are prepareded at an external laboratory. A wait of just a few hours is usually all that it takes.
