Improved, modern dentures

Although no patient ever wants to hear it, unfortunately we do sometimes have to inform patients that there is little option but to remove a significant number of their teeth. This can occur after an accident perhaps, but can also be the result of long term neglect leading to severe gum disease which has degraded the bone that holds our teeth in place.

We understand that this can be very distressing for the person concerned, but thankfully, there are a number of quality options now available for replacing lost teeth.

Dental Implants

One of the best methods, in our opinion, is to have dental implants fitted. In the case of a full arch replacement, a procedure called an ‘all on 4’ can be performed which uses 4 dental implants to hold a fixed bridge in place.

Whilst this is an increasingly popular method and will last for at least twenty years given reasonable care and attention, some people simply can’t get over the idea of having implants (despite the fact that this is not painful) and look to other options instead.

Dentures

The most obvious and long used alternative for lost teeth is to have dentures fitted. This is a tried and tested method but one that is not without its drawbacks. Many people find that dentures can feel uncomfortable and can also look unnatural, fulfilling their ‘false teeth’ label.

However, at our dental practice in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham, we are able to offer a modern alternative in dentures called Valplast.

Unlike most dentures which have a rigid base, Valplast dentures are made from an unbreakable nylon resin (which also means that they won’t break if you drop them in the sink when cleaning them) which is significantly more comfortable than regular dentures.

Not only are they unbreakable but the very nature of the material used in their manufacture means that rather than staying rigid when worn, these dentures allow for a certain amount of movement and flexibility in the mouth, thereby giving additional comfort to the wearer.

Aesthetically too, they are an improvement on traditional dentures as no metal clasps are used to hold them in place and as the material blends in with the colour of the inside of your mouth, it is also difficult to detect when someone is wearing them.

As with standard dentures, the fitting of Valplast dentures is completely non invasive which is a reassurance to anyone who experiences dental phobia. Because of the additional flexibility, most wearers find that eating and talking is improved when wearing them.

In addition to the above benefits, there is also a lifetime guarantee against breakage or fractures of these dentures which gives additional peace of mind to anyone wearing them.
