Dental Veneers and Inlays

Modern aesthetic dental treatments for our patients from Birmingham.

You don’t have to look at the TV for very long before you will see an advertisement for a tooth whitening toothpaste. The number of these now coming onto the market is a response to the demands for whiter teeth from dental patients from Birmingham and indeed, across the rest of the UK. The sad fact though, is that these toothpastes actually have very little effect due to the limited amount of the whitening ingredient which is allowed in them by law.

For a tooth whitening treatment to be truly effective, a professional in house tooth whitening treatment should be opted for. This treatment is both affordable and takes up very little time.

Additional options for badly stained teeth

Whilst tooth whitening treatments are excellent though, they do not work perfectly for everybody. We recently had a case of a dental patient from Birmingham who had been a heavy smoker for over 30 years and but had managed to quit. He was sure that he would never start again but regretted the fact that it had made his teeth very discoloured indeed. On examination we realised that a tooth whitening procedure would not be enough for this particular patient although some improvement would have been seen.

After discussing the available options, it was decided that dental veneers were the best way to rid him of the reminder of his smoking years. The procedure is relatively straightforward and involves the removal of a fine layer of enamel from the front of the visible teeth.

In most cases, following this, impressions would then be taken and sent to a laboratory for the veneers to be made. However, at Arthur House Dental Care we have a technology called CEREC which enables the veneers to be produced while you wait. This makes the whole procedure very swift indeed. After the new veneers have been fitted to replace the enamel that has been removed, we simply trim and smooth the new veneers to give them a realistic, natural appearance.

Because of CEREC, our patients are then able to head back to their Birmingham home (or work) with no need to return for a further procedure.

Inlays

Whilst we are on the subject of aesthetic improvements, an increasing number of patients are asking if there are alternatives to large dark coloured amalgam fillings that can spoil your smile. There are now options available for replacing even larger amalgam fillings using ‘inlays’, manufactured once again using the excellent CEREC tool.

The use of inlays will depend on each case and may not be suitable for all, but an examination will determine this and we will discuss the options with you.

In fact, the use of CEREC has been a great plus for our patients at Arthur House Dental Care near Birmingham and we are pleased be offer veneers, inlays and also crowns using this amazing piece of equipment. In most cases our patients are able to have their treatment in just a single visit, not just a great saving in time but also more comfortable too.
