A Crown in a Day in Sutton Coldfield

CEREC technology – high quality dental crowns and a time saver too!

We all know how it feels when a tooth breaks. Even when there is no pain or major discomfort, there is a sinking feeling that we are going to have to make a number of visits to the dentist to have it repaired.

This certainly used to be the case for the majority of patients as, on the initial visit, the tooth would be prepared and impressions taken. These would then be sent to the dental laboratory for the crown to be made. This could take a week or more after which another visit to the dentist would be necessary to have the new crown attached.

To cap it all (excuse the pun), during the wait, a temporary crown would usually be fitted to prevent damage to the tooth. These were often uncomfortable and with only limited functionality.

CEREC – The Game Changer

At Arthur House Dental Care, we are pleased to be able to say that this method of tooth repair is now a thing of the past and we are able to offer dental crowns on the same day due to our use of CEREC technology. This is ideal for busy patients, many of whom travel from close-by Birmingham to visit our Sutton Coldfield dental practice.

By using CEREC, any patient needing a crown to repair a broken tooth will be able to leave the practice in just a short few hours with their tooth fully, and finally capped. There is no need for a temporary crown or for a second visit, other than the usual check ups of course.

We do this by using CEREC to take digital impressions of the prepared tooth. This information is then fed into the machine and, from a solid block of ceramic, a personalised dental crown is produced in approximately one hour. As soon as the new crown is produced, it will then be attached with dental cement and the process completed.

Additional Benefits of CEREC

Whilst the time factor is obviously a major benefit of CEREC, it is not the only one.

By having the crown fitted on the same day, only one injection is needed to numb the tooth. This is especially important for any nervous patients from the Birmingham area as one of the major phobias of visiting the dentist is a fear of the needle.

By using CEREC too, we are generally able to preserve more of the natural tooth than would be the case if the crown were to be made at a laboratory. Finally, it has been shown that dental crowns produced in this manner are likely to prove to be stronger and longer lasting than conventionally produced crowns.

Dental veneers have also been made for a number of our patients using the very same CEREC technology and with very similar benefits – another illustration of the versatility of this excellent system.
